Technology is nowadays already pervasive. What is often termed “ubiquitous computing” is no longer something of the near future. With so much technology in our daily environment, there is an explosion of interfaces and a strong increase in their complexity. Solutions currently being put forward are new interaction paradigms (e.g. tangible or physical interfaces) or more subtle modes of information presence (e.g. ambient or contextual interfaces). What are the usability implications of these changes and how can usability help guide the development of new human-centered interfaces?
